Our History

St. John's Lutheran School (SJLS) began its operation over 50 years ago at its first location in downtown Bakersfield on the corner of 4th and N streets. In 1971 St. John's Lutheran Church moved to 912 New Stine Road, however the elementary school had closed its doors in 1977. In 1982 St. John's once again began operating an elementary school beginning with one Kindergarten class and added classes each year.
